The Australian open 2016 is finally under way, here you’ll find a summary of the Australian open day 1 and also links to the most important articles on the website of the Australian open. Fit Fed’s fine start
A fit and sharp Roger Federer made an impressive start at the Australian open 2016. Federer eased to a convincing win against Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-2 6-1 6-2 on the opening night of the Australian open. Federer finished the match within 75 minutes and was very happy afterwards.

Novak shows no mercy
There were no worries for world number 1 Novak Djokovic on day 1 of the Australian open. Djokovic started his title defence against upcoming star Hyeon Chung of South Korea. The top seed and defending champion searching for a 6th title, eased his way into the second round with a 6-2 6-3 6-4 victory.

Kyrgios shines in the spotlight
One of Australia’s most talented players Nick Kyrgios showed what he was all about at a packed Hisense arena. Kyrgios seeded at a grand slam for the first time, cruised past Carreno Busta from Spain 6-2 7-5 6-2, hitting 15+ aces and 30+ winners en route to victory in just 90 minutes.

‘Superhero’ Serena back in style
In her first win in over four months, world number 1 Serena Williams showed that she’s ready to defend her title. Her hard fought 6-4 7-5 victory against Camila Giorgi from Italy – the highest-ranked unseeded player in the 2016 draw – shows that she is still the overwhelming favorite in the women’s draw.

Maria means business
Although she might lack some match play, Maria Sharapova was in no mood to spend to much time on court today. She easily routed Japanese grand slam debutante Hibino with a 6-1 6-3 victory to march into the second round of the Australian open.

Bouchard sets up Radwanska clash
Former semi-finalist Eugenie Bouchard made a triumphant return to Melbourn, reaching the second round of Australian open 2016 with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Serbia’s Krunic on monday night. The 21-year-old faces a tough challenge if she wants to reach the third round, because in the second she will face number 4 seed Agnieszka Radwanska who strolled into the second round by beating Christina McHale 6-2 6-3.
